The #AulaAlumni of the 5th Centenary of the School of Salamanca explores human dignity through the figure of Teresa Chikaba: an African princess, an enslaved woman, a Dominican nun, and one of the earliest Afro-Hispanic voices to write in Spanish. Her story opens a reflection on memory, dignity, equality, and the recognition of women erased from history, the African presence in Spain, and the memory of slavery.
For Women’s Legacy, Chikaba holds a special meaning: this Afro-Hispanic nun has long been part of the project’s documentary foundation, addressing intersectionality and diversity from a far-reaching historical perspective. It is a great satisfaction to see her story continue its journey and reach new audiences.
