Acció Cultural del País Valencià joins the Erasmus+ educational innovation project Women’s Legacy to recover and value the genealogy of women

The association Acció Cultural del País Valencià joins Women’s Legacy Our Cultural Heritage for Equity, the Erasmus+ educational innovation project lead by Conselleria d’Educació, Cultura i Esport, of the Valencian Government. They aim to recover and value the genealogy of women, so as to correct the androcentric view on history and culture that has been developing up to present day.

That’s why some of the objectives of this collaboration are, for example, to achieve a total inclusion of artistic, musical and literary works by female authors in the cultural programme of the association Acció Cultural del País Valencià. They also pretend to do some joint analytical research about the presence of female author productions in the cultural programmes of the Valencian area.

Furthermore, joining Women’s Legacy implies a further promotion of the celebration of female authors through the initiative that Acció Cultural del País Valencià started this year under the name of “Festes Isabelines”. An initiative which aims to acknowledge Valencian literature female writers and discover emerging ones. In fact, the name is in honour of two of the most recognised: Isabel de Villena and Isabel-Clara Simó.

“We have formalised a union that makes perfect sense for both parties, as we are a project and entity which defend equality from a cultural and educational sphere, considering that it lays the foundations for a future which is more inclusive and fair to women”, Ana López-Navajas, Women’s Legacy’s project manager, states.

This adhesion continues along the lines of some of the proposals that were already in action at Acció Cultural del País Valencià, such as the singer-songwriters cycle ‘Amb veu de dona’ (With a woman’s voice) or the didactic materials and couplets by writers such as Maria Aurèlia Capmany or Carmelina Sánchez-Cutillas”, explains Anna Oliver, president of the association Acció Cultural del País Valencià.

FIVE OPEN INTELLECTUAL PRODUCTS FOR COEDUCATION

Likewise, Acció Cultural del País Valencià will not only collaborate from now on in the dissemination of Women’s Legacy’s five intellectual products, but will also help in their creation, as this process is still underway.

Specifically, it is a STEM course (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) called “A science with female scientists for the classroom”, a resource bank with activities, indications and information; as well as three catalogues of works and fragments of female authorship in music, literature and art. They are all available in open access on the official website of the project (https://womenslegacyproject.eu/ca/recursos-oberts/).

In short, these five products are instruments of didactic intervention that allow for a cultural restitution of women’s production in different academic fields and complete the contents that have been traditionally transmitted in schools.

AN UNSTOPPABLE NETWORK

In conclusion, Women’s Legacy, the European educational innovation Erasmus+ KA201 project, is expanding its network, leaded by nine entities from Valencia, Lithuania, Italy, Scotland and other parts of Spain. This is the case of the education services of Glasgow City Council, the city council of the largest city in Scotland; University of Valencia and University of Vilnius; or El Legado de las Mujeres, a Spanish association for the visibility of women in secondary education, from which a large part of the teaching staff working on the project come.

The other four partners of this Erasmus+ project are Escola Sindical de Formació Melchor Botella from Intersindical Valenciana; IAL Nazionale (Innovazione Apprendimento Lavoro), the largest Italian network of social enterprises working in vocational and ongoing training; as well as two secondary schools: IES Benicalap in Valencia and IIS Luigi Einaudi in Italy.

Furthermore, over 60 entities have joined the project since its beginnings in 2019, including educational centres, city councils and educational and/or cultural organisations. Women’s Legacy is still open to the incorporation of more people and institutions. All the information is available in five languages on the official website.
