AIMED AT
Secondary education teachers in STEAM areas: Mathematics, Biology, Geology, Visual Arts, Physics and Chemistry, Technology and Computer Science at any level and stage. Other primary and early childhood, secondary, adult education, official language school and vocational training teachers. Art and design schoolteachers.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES OF THIS TRAINING ACTIVITY
- To show and reflect on the situation of women in science.
- To recognise the continuing tradition of women scientists as protagonists of science and the essential role of their contributions in its development.
- To learn about the production and context of women scientists in general and to study in depth those in each STEAM area.
- To learn about the methodology for integrating these contributions into curriculum content and classroom practice.
- To design classroom curriculum activities that include women scientists in the chosen subject area.
SPECIFIC CONTENT OF THIS TRAINING ACTIVITY
- A historical overview of women’s contributions from Antiquity to the 21st century.
- Recognition of the importance of women scientists, their contributions and their implications for science: practical interests and goals, alternative spaces for doing science, and women’s scientific approaches and traditions.
- Connecting each subject area’s content with women scientists to identify where and how they can be included.
- Classroom inclusion. Practical application of the inclusion of these contributions in the curriculum through a specific methodology. Models in the Women’s Legacy database.
- Development of classroom activities following these methodological approaches.
