The 1st transnational meeting of the project “Women’s Legacy: our cultural heritage to equity” was held online

The project “Women’s Legacy: our cultural heritage to equity”, led by the Conselleria d’Educació from Generalitat Valenciana and the researcher Ana López-Navajas, held its first transnational meeting on 4 and 5 March, when all the partners from both Spain and the other participating countries (Italy, Lithuania and Scotland) met telematically due to Covid-19.

The meeting was also attended by the Director General of Linguistic Policy of the Conselleria d’Educació, Cultura i Esport, Rubén Trenzano, who welcomed all the partners. Then the economic package of the project was discussed, as well as the organisation of the content of the project.

After the break, Ana López-Navajas explained the importance of Women’s Legacy by “offering a solution to the structural inequality that women have suffered throughout history when they have been excluded from cultural and scientific recognition”. The researcher also explained how women have had less access to training, professionalisation and the public sphere, which has mediatised their cultural production and has delegitimised them socially.

“That is why this project was born with the priority objective of educating in equal opportunities, including in the educational curriculum and textbooks the female referents of disciplines such as art, music or science”, in the words of López-Navajas.

Subsequently, the four transnational groups managed by the participating partners were presented. Each of these groups will be responsible for compiling a catalogue on an assigned theme, as well as making proposals to administrations and museums to make women creators in their field more visible. Specifically, a group has been created for music, another for art, another for literature and a final one for STEM training (mathematics, physics and chemistry, biology and geology, technology and computer science).

These catalogues, together with the resource bank, represent one of the major contributions of the project, as they provide a model for the inclusion of women’s references at different educational levels.
Next, the work route to be followed by the participating partners was discussed, which will be organised in a first meeting where tasks will be distributed, followed by the creation of the files, their revision and translation and, finally, their inclusion in the computer platform. Finally, a question and answer session was opened for the participants and a new transnational meeting was announced for July this year.
