The European project Women’s Legacy educates teachers about inspirational women in STEM and their scientific legacy

Women’s Legacy, the European project Erasmus+ KA201 of educational innovation led by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports of the Valencian Regional Government, continues to advance in the implementation of one of its five intellectual outputs: a STEM training course for teachers.

The objective of this course is to identify inspirational women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, as well as their contributions to universal knowledge, so that they can be taught in schools, updating the school curriculum. Additionally, this course includes some teaching instructions for it to be applied in different scientific subjects at any educational level.

Taught by Martina Delgado, a physics teacher, Women’s Legacy STEM training course is already in motion at several universities in the Valencian Community, such as Universitat de València, Universitat Jaume I (Castellón) and Universidad de Alicante. It is also planned to be imparted at some universities in Asturias and Galicia.

This course is aimed, in particular, at students in Secondary Education Master’s Degrees or similar, but it is also available to professors of these master’s, teacher training advisors and active secondary teachers.

In fact, the latter are already participating in the second edition of the STEM course that Women’s Legacy is teaching through CEFIRE, entitled “Science with women scientists in the classroom”. It started on January 23rd, and it was at full capacity for the second consecutive year. “All of us are thrilled with the good reception our Women’s Legacy STEM training course has had. It is meant to be used as a model that is transferable to other subjects” Ana López-Navajas, coordinator of the project, concludes.
