Over 20 educational centres in the Valencian Community trained to use Women’s Legacy teaching resources

Women’s Legacy, the European project Erasmus+ KA201 of educational innovation led by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports of the Valencian Regional Government, has set in motion a seminar on the project’s methodology and teaching resources. Over 20 educational centres from all over the Valencian Community, including secondary schools and music conservatories, have signed up.

This 30-hour course, which takes between 4 to 6 sessions, is entitled Women’s Legacy: female role models in the classroom”. It aims to teach how the resource bank and the catalogues work, how their activities can be used in the classroom and how to create new activities using Women’s Legacy’s methodology.

“One of our main objectives is the dissemination of the intellectual outputs we have created, so that they have a real impact in schools. To do so, we have created these seminars, which have been in development since November and will take place during this school year. Not only are we putting the catalogues and the resource bank to use, but we are also identifying aspects to improve”, Ana López-Navajas, Women’s Legacy’s coordinator, explains.

Rosa Roig, the professor and writer in charge of coordinating this training course, highlights the interest shown by teachers, who are eager to implement the project in their classrooms. The project allows them to update the curriculum for all subjects with female role models and their work, therefore making academic texts less male-centred and proposing new activities introducing the cultural legacy of women in educational contents, making the contents more accurate.

“This idea of giving teachers an open-access product, easy to use, has been well received. Some people have also taken this opportunity to join the project in different areas. Over 150 teachers have participated in total, and they have done the activities with their students. I think it is a good start”, Rosa Roig concludes.
