Women’s Legacy reaches Jordan crossing European borders

The researcher Ana López-Navajas, Women’s Legacy’s project manager, recently visited Jordan to give a talk on Andalusian female poets at the University of Amman (capital of the country). On the other hand, she gave the Emilio García Gómez lecture invited by the Spanish Embassy and the Instituto Cervantes in that city, as well as the Royal Institute for Inter-Faith Studies (RIIFS), which is presided by Prince El-Hassan bin Talal.

Both occasions have offered a great opportunity for Ana López-Navajas to present Women’s Legacy, our project led by Conselleria d’Educació and funded by the Erasmus+ programme, beyond European borders. In fact, the researcher affirms that her speeches aroused great interest among all the attendees, who belonged both to the entities that had organised these meetings and to other bodies of the Jordanian public administration.

The Emilio García Gómez conference was even attended by Princess Rahma bint Hassan, who praised the work done by the Women’s Legacy team in different areas of knowledge. Likewise, the Jordanian press echoed this meeting, as Ana López-Navajas spoke in her two speeches about oriental women of all times and fields who have also contributed to universal culture.

The contact between the project manager of Women’s Legacy and the RIIFS has led both parties to agree to hold a future meeting, which will take place at the end of December. The intention is to study possible ways of collaborating, in order to establish an exchange between our project and this institute, with a view to reconstructing the history of humanity without an androcentric vision in neither the Eastern nor Western territories.

As presented on its official website, the RIIFS “is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation that provides a space for the interdisciplinary study of intercultural and interreligious issues with the aim of mitigating tensions and promoting peace, both regionally and globally”.
