Second transnational meeting of Women’s Legacy: share, learn and continue

“Achieving a rigorous cultural transmission in the classroom and correcting the androcentric views that weigh down education.” The researcher Ana López-Navajas summed up with these words the objective of Women’s Legacy last Wednesday, October 6, when the second transnational meeting of this project started, led by Conselleria d’Educació.

The event, which was held in the auditorium of the Administrative City of Valencia, brought together dozens of teaching professionals who participate in the project, as well as the European partners, for three days, so that they could share experiences, learn from each other and update the bases to continue with this shared work.

Specifically, the first day focused on explaining the current status of the project and the coordination structure, as well as reviewing the general objectives and of each of the 17 subject groups. Likewise, the situation of the transnational catalog groups on literary, musical and artistic works was addressed, as well as the procedures to function in a coordinated team.

The subject groups are working to produce a model of inclusion of legacy and female references to be exported to any educational system in the world. There was also time for explaining the dissemination of Women’s Legacy (social networks, web and media), so that all members can participate in it, and presenting in detail the articulation of STEM training: modules, planning, database, transferability options …

For its part, the second day was devoted entirely to the work of the 17 subject groups and the transnational catalog groups (STEM, literature, art and music …) and STEM training, which held parallel work sessions throughout all day to, among other issues, advance with the selection of authors and works that in the near future will become part of the products that will be made available to teachers for classrooms.

Finally, the third day of this transnational meeting was marked by a review of the general calendar and talks on copyright and free platforms that can facilitate co-education in the classroom. Likewise, there was space to make proposals regarding everything that Women’s Legacy is working on. “We are making small tesserae of a mosaic that will not leave anything the same,” concluded Ana López-Navajas.

Beyond the content itself of these three days, the transnational meeting has served so that all the people who are part of Women’s Legacy get to know each other and strengthen their ties, which favors collaborative work in a network. In addition, there were moments for activities such as the “València, ciutat de dones” itinerary: a guided tour to discover the city through many women who are referents in its history.

We would like to thank the assistance and collaboration of all those involved in some way in Women’s Legacy, as well as our partner entities: Glasgow City Council Education Services (United Kingdom), Vilniaus Universitetas (Lithuania), Innovazione Apprendimento Lavoro Nazionale (Italy) , University of Valencia, association El Legado de las Mujeres, Escola Sindical de Formació Melchor Botella, IES Benicalap and IIS Luigi Einaudi (Italy).
